The Practice of Aromatherapy
Dr. Jean Valnet is well known by serious Aromatherapists through out the world. If you would like to know more about the world of Aromatherapy Dr. Jean Valnet "The Practice of Aromatherapy" is a great read! |
- Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds or characteristic odors or flavors which are found in the flowers, stems, roots, bark and other parts of plants. From these plants, the essential oils are extracted by a Enfleurage, Expressed, Steam Distillation, Solvent Extraction, Fractional Distillation, Percolation, Carbon Dioxide Extraction, and Phytonic Process. The particular mix of chemical constituents are what give plants their distinctive smells, offering up their delicious and unique aromas.
- Unlike vegetable oils, Essential oils are not "oily" - they are not made up of fatty lipids or acids found in vegetable and animal oils. They are light, fat-soluble, but not water-soluble (as anyone can attest to if they've tried to blend essential oils with water). Pure essential oils vary in color, viscosity, taste and are very complex. They have the ability to turn from a liquid into a gas in room temperature. So, when you see Top Note, Middle Note, or Base Note, that is the weight of the burn off from the molecule( The speed of it turning from liquid to gas in room temperature). The lighter of the molecule would mean the faster it would change from liquid to gas and the time you would smell it. Top Note is lighter therefore you will smell it first. Then Middle Note burn off next and finally, Base Note will be considered the last to burn off.
- Because pure essential oils are so potent, we always tell people that 'less is more' You need only a few drops of essential oil per teaspoon of carrier oil for use on the skin. When using the essential oils for inhalation 'less is more' because of over stimulation. Think of the word "Ambiance". The aroma to smell or by inhalation is subtle like a dim light would give a room that romantic ambiance.
- One of the real joys of aromatherapy is in getting to know the essential oils through experimentation and blending. AVOID PROLONG USE. Some Dermal Irritant essential oils: Bay, Benzion, Cade, Cassia, Cinnamon bark or leaf, Clove bud, Citronella, Costus, Cumin, Fennel, Fig, Inula, Lemongrass, Lemon verbena, Oregano, Oakmoss, Parsley, Tagetes, Tea Tree, Thyme ct. thymol, . Essential oils that that can burn the skin or skin pigmentation changes: Angelica root, Bergamot ( suggested replacement is Bergamot FCF is FCF: Furanocoumarin Free),Cumin, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, Orange, Bitter, Orange, sweet, Rue, Ginger, Mandarn.
- Indu's Apothecary essential oils are NOT FOR INGESTING. If swallowed, seek medical attention or contact a Poison Control Center. If skin irritation or sensitivity develops or increases, stop use and, if condition persists, seek medical attention.
- Essential oils to Avoid throughout Pregnancy, Labor, and while Breastfeeding: Aniseed, Basil , Birch, Camphor, Hyssop, Mugwort, Parsley seed or leaf, Pennyroyal, Sage, Tansy, Tarragon, Thuja, Wintergreen, Wormwood.
